The Old Barn (Apartment 2) in Cartmel Square is a converted ground floor barn that sleeps 5 which has been tastefully furnished offering a snug and warm atmosphere. This delightful self-catering holiday let is nestled in the South Lake Peninsula within Cumbria.
Owned by Peter and Tina Tesar, The Old Barn has a typical stone cottage style appearance with exposed beams to the ceilings with deep recessed walls. The Old Barn is situated just off the village square at the gate entrance to the racecourse with views from the kitchen & diner over the course and also the village hall.
Greenbank Farm are now offering B&B in a new annex to the beautiful late 16th/early 17th century farmhouse. Greenbank Farm stands in 70 acres of grazing land interspersed with small areas of ancient woodland. The property sits in a prominent elevated position boasting one of the best views of the beautiful Cartmel Valley and picturesque Cartmel village. There are two double B&B rooms: Farm View - The main bedroom, with en-suite bath and shower room, has its own entrance at the rear of the farmhouse and can be a double or twin depending on your requirements. Valley View - A double bedroom with en-suite shower room. The suite is accessed through the main house. Greenbank Farm is also home of the Black Horses.
Cartmel Holiday Cottages has been awarded the Gold standard for Green Tourism. We are so pleased as it hasn’t been a simple exercise. Two years ago we gained the Silver Award as a brand new member of Green Tourism. We are determined to always improve our cottages and sustainability is one of our core values, so it’s nice to know that an independent assessor has supported this following an in depth audit.
The summary of the report says:-
Cartmel Holiday Cottages are located in a secluded woodland position close to the village of Cartmel offering guests accommodation with easy links to the English Lake District. John and family run the business with sustainability in mind, this is evidenced with a number of measures in place and others in development which allow the business to progress to a GOLD Green Tourism award on their second visit. Other highlights from the visit include a ground source heat pump, solar PV panels, excellent community involvement, good promotion of local food and drink, a‐rated appliances and generally good recycling practices.
Racecourse Cottage is a luxury self-catering holiday let just off the square right opposite Cartmel’s famous racecourse. Beautifully furnished, it sleeps six people and has three bathrooms. Well-equipped, the cottage also has a woodburner, smart digital TVs in the living room and all bedrooms as well as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth audio.
The Uplands Hotel is set amongst Britain’s finest countryside with awe inspiring views in a relaxing atmosphere, Enjoy light lunches, afternoon teas, a delicious fresh a la carte menu and the highly recommended weekend carvery. Why not dine al fresco in the quiet, idyllic gardens, or extend your stay and book into one of the rooms. The newly refurbished boutique Priory Hotel with restaurant offers accommodation and fine dining or light meals in the heart of Cartmel village.
You can dine at Simon Rogan's Michelin Star restaurant, L'Enclume, and stay in one of their beautifully furnished modern rooms.
You can also stay at Howbarrow Organic Farm and choose from one of two luxury properties available at Howbarrow. The cottage, nestling in the farm yard, and the loft which acccupies the second floor of a grade two listed farmhouse. Both have a 4 star rating, organic cotton sheets and wood burning stoves. Seasonal produce is available to visitors. With panoramic views, delightfull places to picnic and hideaway, the farm overlooks the Cartmel valley and Lakeland fells.
Howbarrow cottage and loft properties have been awarded Gold standard 2015 by www.green-tourism.com. Gold award is descibed as Inspirational and Outstanding. 1 of only 6 self catering properties in Cumbria to now hold this Gold standard.
The properties were assessed on a rigorous set of 'green' criteria: "the highest standards of sustainability are being achieved with a strong and broad ethos and excellent examples throughout. The latest technologies have been employed from LED lighting to efficeint zero carbon biomass boilers and renewable energy from solar array and wind turbine. The farm now generates more electricity than it uses."
The indoor hot tub and 'endless' swimming pool at Howbarrow Organic Farm is now up and available for guests staying in 2016. Visit www.endlesspools.co.uk for more idea of what an 'endless pool' is. This is a unique facility in the Cartmel valley. There are lots of hot tubs in larger properties, but not in properties aimed at couples and certainly not with swimming pools!
The pool and hottub is heated by the farm's biomass boiler and is fully compliant with their green business gold award. It is also getting lots of interest from the growing number of visitors to the area who come for triathlons and open water swimmers, looking for a place to stay and train as well.
Flat 3 Tower House is a holiday let located in the heart of one of Lakelands prettiest Villages, just off the village square and adjoining medieval archway. Centrally located in heart of Cartmel village to take advantage of the races, Cartmel Priory and award winning restaurants, this luxury 1 bedroom flat is modern high spec but still maintaining its original features and charm.
Crumble Cottage is only one mile from the ancient market town of Cartmel and on a quiet no-through lane mostly used by walkers and horses, a 500 year old Cumbrian longhouse nestles into the hillside. Attached is Crumble cottage a haven of peace and tranquillity but not that far from the madding crowd.

Aynsome Manor Hotel is a family run 17th century Manor House on the outskirts of the village.

Lake District Self Catering offers self catering accommodation at Hardcragg Hall in Grange-over-Sands.
The Jammy Patch has a range of accommodation options in Cartmel and nearby Cark. Offering accommodation in a welcoming family home, Beckside House B&B is open for certain dates during the summer. Accommodation comprises one large double bedroom and one single room. Both rooms share a large bathroom. Or you can choose to stay at Cark Manor Stables - a beautiful semi-detached cottage, on the edge of the pretty streamside village of Cark. Set in its own private and spacious grounds, this self-catering cottage offers 3 ground floor bedrooms sleeping 2-4 people (up to 6 on special request), and one bathroom. The owners are currently restoring Beckside Stables, a former working stable and tack-room, into an exquisite and charming little retreat to open later in 2012. Or if you like camping like it used to be, they offer Jammy Camping as well!
Owners of Cartmel Lodge Park, Andrew and Zarina Cretney, also own Cartmel Escapes Studios - 2 Beautiful bijou studios, available to rent all year round.
