CARTMEL SHOPPING PARADISE

From the Square, ancient streets wend their way out of the village, each well worth the exploration for the variety of shops on offer. Browsers will delight in finding all kinds of Lakeland products - from gifts and clothing to fine art and antiques.

Unsworth's Yard is now open near the priory with new artisan shops Cartmel Cheeses, The Bread Shed bakery and the Red Pepper & HOT Wines shop.

There are four unusual gift shops in Cartmel, each selling their own blend of unique gifts. The Larch Tree, next to the Priory has clothing, hundreds of present ideas, quality and traditional toys for children, and toys for adults who have never grown up! Next door, Devonshire Square (formerly the Priory Shop) sells hand-made chocolates and confectionaries, gardening gifts, perfumes and soaps, many of which are made locally using natural ingredients.

Next to the Cavendish Arms, Chamberlins' Gifts sell a range of gifts and also life size fibreglass animals. Thie spring lambs are proving extremely popular!

Cartmel Village Shop make up beautiful food gift hampers and picnics all year round. You can hand select foods, preserves and culinary gifts to make your present truly personal.

A few miles outside of Cartmel is the impressively large nineteenth century Yew Tree Barn. Situated at Low Newton it is an Aladdin's cave of architectural antiques and funrniture. With an impressive upstairs gallery and the workshops of a jeweller, painter, potter and photographer under its oak beams, you can while away a few hours browsing before trying out their super little old fashioned Hat Trick Cafe.

Near to the village you will also discover Howbarrow Organic Farm Shop, selling food fresh from the field.
